THe VESIT societies saga

Hi guys, there is this post a senior wrote a few years ago on an orkut community about life of society council members in VESIT. It was way back when VESIT had 7 societies but the essence still holds. It was retrieved from a blog by some Vaibhav Kamat. It goes like this :

10:30 AM on the VESIT 4th flour

At 10:30 the bell rings, its break time .But no break for SCR(society council members)
Students looking so pathetic in the lecture , suddenly are the men of action.
Some run, some jog and slowly the random mob seems to forming n-sized groups . while few
still like to run dodging the fellows . In the pretty confined space of the corridor SCRs manage space , after all managing is their job. Discussions are in the air and the sound waves superimpose and distort.
Many time their are announcements and the SCRs force their way in a class , sometimes the students/SCR ratio is embarrassing , but adjustments are made persuading the outsiders. The groups move from one class to another and the PROs repeat the same stuff.Yeah SCRs are excellent time managers too!
At the peak time, people density is at its best. Many SCRs excellent dodging
skills rescue them. As they say "when going gets tough tough gets going".
Finally the ending bell rings , SCRs realize theres end to everything. groups slowly disperse and the men of action are again the dull guys in the classroom along with others...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Very well put, Vaibhav. Its strange how being in the thick of things kind of rouses certain people's energies and channelizes them... Perhaps it's the sense of 'doing something' in this monotonous engineering life or maybe as Dale Carneige wrote, people just want to 'feel' important. Whatever it might be, this is the thing that makes VESIT what it is for me and I'm sure many share the thought. And no amount of cribbing on my part about non-funtional printers, slow-internet connections, lousy staff ,pain-in-the-ass faculty can take away the fact that many remain and many will be indebted to VESIT for giving them this pleasure to discover heroes within themselves.

Next to GOD is Google

Q. What do you do when you are in some big trouble and have no way out of it?

A. You either pray to God or you turn on the computer, log on to the internet and just GOOGLE your way out.

Google is not a problem solver or even a solution arena, it’s just a simple search engine with complex algorithms that work hard to provide you the right direction/guide you to your solution. Since the turn of the century, Google has been widely regarded as the best and the simplest of the search engines out there. Its popularity is such that it is seen in the company’s annual revenues, which show signs of profit even in the time of such an economic slowdown, not to say that Google is American and is IT-based.

When the duo of Hanna-Barbara ran their creative minds, the world got Scooby doo and the catchphrase “Yabba-Dabba-Doo!” So when the GEEKY duo of Larry Page and Sergey Brin ran their technical brains, the world got GOOGLE and the rest is history. Google, primarily a search engine has expanded vastly in directions multiple and has given birth to many daughter companies like ADsense, ADwords, Google Maps, Google Earth, Gmail, also acquiring many websites like YouTube, Orkut, Blogger etc. It also has its presence in the software industry which has given us software’s like Google chrome, Android OS and other Google LABS applications that have expanded the possibility of the use of internet.

Google is a complete package, a guide, a SAVIOUR to all your problems on and offline

Google, Non-Technically speaking has been into the industry since more than a decade now and has gone through various transformations; significantly the logo has always remained the same, except for it changing on special occasions like the Independence Day or other regional or international festivals, that show the companies cause toward a more friendly environment, which Google has very well incorporated with its unofficial tagline and work mantra – “don’t be evil”. This very approach towards the masses has helped Google become more popular than many of its competitors and it has thus become the most used home-page and why not? Many dictionaries today have the word “Google it” which they claim is now a synonym for the word “search”

Ease of use, friendly environment and simple looks apart, Google is more than just visuals, when you see the amount of time it takes, probably sum fraction of a second, it’s hard to believe that it has actually given you a billion search results already. With more than a million search queries to be processed each day, this call of duty has prompted Google to equip itself with the most sophisticated of the technical instruments and the latest of technology, so much that it easily handles the 1 Petabyte of approximated user data that it receives every single hour

Google can easily earn more through their ads if they know the needs of their target audiences. Thus incorporating the right advertisements at the right time for the right person will only result in – “Perfect Advertisement”, and that alone is enough to satisfy the company’s monetary needs.

So the next time you find yourself in the middle of some grave problem and you find that God is seemingly busy to pay attention to your prayers, work out your fingers over the keyboard and just type in your query at google.com, surely it won’t be a waste of time and who knows you might just be lucky. For more on Google, just try to Google it.

Weird Tech!!

The latest innovations in the fields of science and technology has led to the development of a number of mind-boggling gadgets and gizmos. While some are designed to make life easy, others seem to cater to the fancy of the rich and the famous. Apart from these, there exist a set of other gadgets which seem to be nothing more than the whim of their creators. Sure every child’s dream of getting a James Bond thing will be soon a reality. Heres taking a sneak-peek!

Ever wondered how weird it might look to have ur slippers glowing?Illuminated Car Slippers are actually cosy car shaped shoes that let you move in the dark comfortably. Fitted with bright LED lights, these extra ordinary slippers can light up the floor up to a distance of 30 feet. Surely a handy innovation to find your way in the dark!
CUT COPY AND PASTE-On the computer it’s so freakingly easy but what if u are nasty in cutting things just like me? Designed primarily to assist people who find it difficult in cutting a paper along a straight line. The laser scissors can help you to get the perfect cut. Just aim the pin point laser, follow the line, and you will never mess up with the perfect cutting. Made of stainless steel, these scissor blades have a micro serrated edge and provide a commendable finish to cut edges .P.s-don’t aim it anywhere else!!

Now here’s a byte that’s sweet to the eyes but not to the tongue. The Chocolate Portable HDD looks like a chocolate bar but that’s where the similarities end. Each piece of this high-tech chocolate is actually a modular flash drive. The central hub comprises of a touchscreen that helps you to view and organize your collective files.

Plunger Helmet is a device that is designed to protect you not while driving but while napping. If you have a habit of falling asleep on the train, you might easily get one to keep you steady. The plunger helmet looks like the typical helmet that construction workers use, but has a plunger attached to its back which keeps your head in place. The device is actually more helpful for your seat mates rather than yourself as it prevents you from swaying side to side. Even if you don’t need one yourself, you might keep one in stock for use on a drowsy seat mate.

it’s the gizmo eat-attack for all those tummy-chubby people!!A transparent toaster enables you to keep a watch on your toast even while you are rushing around to get things done. Armed with a transparent heating glass technology which allows one to see the bread while toasting, this novel innovation has been designed to assist millions of hapless eaters.

Another useful invention for people running forever short on time. The Electric Shoe Polisher Buffer Machine offers a new and easy way to have shiny looking shoes all day long without bothering to use manual labour. This funky gadget can polish and shine your shoes and boots, allowing you to keep your hands clean and save precious time

Finally a way out to hit your friend with a snowball before he finds time to turn his back and run away. The Sno-Baller can churn out large numbers of snowballs in seconds, even as your gloves stay drier and hands warmer. What’s more, you can fire away continually without ever being afraid of running out of stock! This device is a must for family and neighborhood snowball fights!

With newer items adding on to the roster every passing day, the list of weird gadgets and gizmos are growing continually.

INTERNET IN SPACE

8:21 AM / Posted by neelesh / comments (0)

Internet has become the most favorable means of information interchange on earth and now our scientists at NASA have found that this same setup can be used to relay information to and fro SPACE! Though the technology involved will be a little different as on earth the distance between any two points is not astronomically large but for two celestial bodies these distances matter a lot. Due to these distances I.P. which is used on earth cannot be used as the information will have certain lag between the information being passed. The technology being developed here is called the Delay Tolerant Networking (DTN). Remote control is very hard when you have a 40-minute round-trip time. DTN was developed to address this problem.

A delay-tolerant network is designed to move data across rough networks--networks that have long delays and noisy connections. Concept of DTN is "bundling," a mechanism for a space network's nodes--probes, relay satellites, and the like--to hold data if the next hop in the network is unavailable. Communications specialists call this a store-and-forward network. This approach contrasts greatly with how nodes handle data on the TCP/IP-driven Internet. An Internet router doesn't keep track of the packets it conveys, nor where they are going beyond the next hop. Only the computer at the endpoint of all this hopping knows that a packet has arrived (and sends the acknowledgment back through the entire chain).

A DTN router, in contrast, keeps a copy of every packet of data sent; at least until the next node has sent a message that it has received it. That scheme ensures that no data gets lost en route, even if a node is offline. Should a relay satellite along an interplanetary Internet slip behind the other side of a moon, a router on a DTN network would simply hold onto the data that needed to be transmitted until that satellite reappeared, or until another one came into position to provide the necessary hop.

While the new protocol is hugely inefficient by earthly standards, using up a lot of memory to hold duplicate copies of data and needing orders of magnitude more time to send complete messages, it is a surefire way to get data to its destination. And it has some other benefits for a device in outer space, which, after all, has other things to worry about besides communicating with Earth.

From the Chairperson's desk

Deep Patel
Chairperson,
Indian Society for Tehnical Education,
V.E.S.I.T.

With each beginning comes a hope of a new change. We foresee some of these changes while some others are just wishes we yearn for. Nonetheless the vision that goes into launching a new venture is built on such an imagination of a few inspired individuals. This is the fuel that drives us at the VESIT students chapter of ISTE. At ISTE-VESIT, we derive our faculties from the motto, IMAGINATION IS POWER.
We are a year-old student body of the prestigious national organisation, ISTE and we believe that our driving force is our novel purview towards age old issues. Moreover we inherit a legacy of illustrious feats performed under various contexts at this dynamic institute. A strong foundation having been laid, the only way we know is to grow.
Our objectives are multifold and successful accomplishment of these would ensure that our members improve as individuals and as professionals. We trust our ethics and abilities to deliver the best pool of opportunities to outshine competition. We hope you, our members sieze these chances as we explore new ways to highlight your achievements before the nation.
The ISTE council invites you all to dream with us as we embark on this exciting journey. For no joy is greater than the anticipation of a dream coming true. It is this anticipation that made John Lennon croon "Imagine..." It is this anticipation that inspired Martin Luther King Jr. to change millions of lives. It is this anticipation that guarantees irrefutable, irrevocable success. And it is this anticipation we hope you share with us. Come, dream along.
